with a Preconference on Migration and the Environment

The CERDI (Centre for Studies and Research on International Development) of the University of Auvergne is organizing its Second International Conference on Environment and Natural Resources Management in Developing and Transition Economies, to be held:

17-18-19 October 2012 – CERDI – University of Auvergne (Clermont-Ferrand, France)

Environment and development concerns will remain on the agendas, although the financial and economic crises have diverted attention from global and local environmental threats and natural resource management issues in developing and developed economies. The IPCC will release its 5th Assessment Report; states will meet on Environment and Development issues within the Earth Summit 2012 to be held in Rio in June.

This Second Conference is intended to give an echo to these concerns and welcome papers on topics related with the so-called three pillars of sustainable development: a better environment, good economic performance and poverty reduction as targeted by the Millennium Development Goals.

Preconference on Migration and the Environment

Moreover, this Second Conference welcomes a preconference on Migration and the Environment jointly organised by the CERDI, the CES from the University of Paris 1, France, FERDI (Fondation pour les Etudes et Recherches sur le Développement International) and IDDRI (Institut du Développement Durable et des Relations Internationales):

This preconference will address more precisely the issue of remittances and migration related to environmental issues. Remittances are recorded to be the most important flow directed towards developing countries and have recently received increasing attention in the literature. Remittances may have a bidirectional relationship with environmental issues. The preconference will also deal with the vulnerability - migration nexus. See the Call for Papers for more details.

Main objectives of the Conference

The Conference is intended to share research and gather feedbacks on work in progress and completed papers as well. It will bring together theoretical and / or applied papers relying either on theoretical and / or econometric modelling, and putting forward policy implications posited in international and national agendas. Contributions borrowing from different scientific fields will also be considered. The Conference will include parallel sessions as well as plenary ones dealing with major issues of sustainable development in developing and transition economies.  See the Call for Papers for more details.

The deadline for submissions is extended from 30 june 2012 to 09 July 2012. Subsmissions shoud be sent at the following address:
